Cause & Effect; Causal Determinism

Elaboration

  • All existence follows the law of cause & effect

    • Something within existence, causes something else within existence

    • There is nothing that is non-caused or caused by itself (self-caused)

  • The result of a cause is the effect

    • The effect becomes the cause for something else

      • Cause -> Effect -> Cause->Effect->...

  • Any state is completely determined by prior state + laws of nature (which the prior state follows)

Ethical Implications

  • You are partly responsible for what happens in the world

    • Any intention, thought, speech, actions you do affects the whole world

  • Power to Change

    • One has power/capacity to influence one's present & future

    • Knowing a cause which yields in a specific Effect

      • e.g., consuming less calories while maintaining the rest, one will loose weight

  • Causal Universal Interdependence - Affecting the whole Existence

    • Anything&all <-affects-> anything&all

    • All is interdependent with all

    • Analogy - Domino Stone

      • The 1st Domino-piece affects only it-self and the second piece. The 2nd piece affects only it-self and the 3rd piece. This continuous until there are no more Domino-pieces.

      • The first Domino-piece is then a/the Cause for the e.g., final/infinite Domino-piece

      • Similarly in reality

        • A e.g., decision to act out of good-will instead of ill-will, at first glance, may only affect your-self and the recipients of the good-will. However, the recipients will change their actions and so affect others until the whole existence is reached.

Examples

  • Thoughts, intentions condition your mind i.e., habit energy resulting in a future potential to occur

    • Imagine the mental state of ill-will arises and you suppress it via stimulating the mental state of good-will

      • Future

        • The conditioning of good-will increases and will occur in the future more

      • Present

        • Good-will is present and causes e.g., actions out of good-will

  • Imagine if X wouldn't have happened

    • Discovery of the steam-engine

    • Discovery of fire

All within is caused by all within existence
